Beloved Community

At Providence College, the beloved community is a just community, ordered by and towards love, and animated by the spirit of Christ in its pursuit of truth. Such is what we aspire to become. The reflections above draw on our deepest traditions as a Catholic institution and bring us to a new moment. We look ahead in anticipation and in hope that, with justice, love, and grace, we will minister to the beloved community in our midst. These reflections are a starting point, a sense of the direction forward. The future will be defined by our commitment to bringing these principles and this vision to our life together in vital and transformative ways. We are excited for you to join us. Learn more about the beloved community.

Peer Mentoring Program (PMP)

The Peer Mentoring Program (PMP) is an organization that supports first-generation college students in their pursuit of higher education. PMP builds community, offers social and academic support, and creates a reflective environment for students. The PMP program teaches students how to navigate the college community, balance relationships between home and campus, and create a network of support from peers and faculty. PMP is a yearlong program that supports first-year students in their transition from high school to college. PMP pairs each new student with an upper-class mentor.

Horizons Program

Supports multicultural students (freshmen to senior) in their matriculation through Providence College. Horizons programming includes a weekend retreat in the Fall semester, as well as a yearlong mentoring program between first year students and upper-class students.

Friar Foundations

The Friar Foundations Program (FFP) is aimed at easing the transition from high school to college for a select number of incoming Providence College students. The program addresses two fundamental issues students must face when entering college — academic responsibility and social assimilation. Participants in the FFP are already admitted students who take two 1.5-credit courses (writing and skills building) remotely over the summer.

D.I.D. Wall

About

A D.I.D wall is a Dialogue, Inclusion, and Democracy Wall. The wall is a space for community conversations in an easy and safe environment.

Student leadership has demonstrated its influence in promoting civil discourse on campus through student lead “democracy walls” since 2018. Initially, these spaces were set up in The Feinstein Academic Center and later expanded to include Moore Hall, The Ryan Center for Business Studies, PC Athletics, and the Science Complex. The PC Athlete D.I.D wall promotes conversations about social and racial justice, the PC community, and how to encourage students to use their position as athletes to create change.

Athletics Chaplaincy

Team Chaplains

Team Chaplains support our Providence College student-athletes on and off the field

Team Chaplains provide spiritual support for athletic teams on and off the field of play. They customarily attend home games and occasionally travel to away games. Team Chaplains provide individual or communal pastoral care to the student-athletes and team staff, including things such as blessing team equipment and/or playing fields, leading prayer before or after a game, offering a blessing before a team departs for away games, welcoming teams back to campus, supporting the team after something challenging happens, and similar forms of support.
